Australians expressed their anger after finding out that neither
King Charles
or any member of the British
royal family
will be included in the redesigned Australian $5 banknote.
The following edition of the note, which had included the late
Queen Elizabeth II
Since 1992, it will showcase a theme paying tribute to Indigenous Australians.
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) stated, “The design on the $5 bill ought to acknowledge the profound relationship between Indigenous Australians and their land—a bond that is both emotional and spiritual, as well as physical.”
Angry Australians criticized the decision extensively on various social media platforms.
“There are numerous historical figures listed on our currency who have passed away; why single out Queen Elizabeth for removal when so many others remain? It appears unjust, particularly since we are associated with the royal family, and she held the title of longest-reigning monarch. This decision feels like an act of disrespect,” someone commented.
‘Disgraceful that they can make that decision. I hate this government and the dreadful waste of OUR money to ”
woke
” everything they can,’ another said.
The new $5 note theme was chosen from more than 2,100 public submissions, but the final artwork has not been confirmed and the RBA said it wanted to ‘avoid being tokenistic or stereotypical’ when considering submissions.
The RBA stated its intention to acknowledge the contributions made by ‘Indigenous communities’ towards the restoration and preservation of our natural surroundings.

‘Using traditional… knowledge First Nations peoples continue to act as custodians to sustain and conserve Country,’ it said.
‘There is an opportunity for all Australians to learn from Australia’s original stewards on how to nurture and protect our fragile world.’
More to come.
