President
Donald Trump
His approval rating has slightly decreased over the past few weeks, yet he continues to stay afloat in most of the states he secured victory in during the previous November, as indicated by recent surveys.
has
contacted the White House for remarks through an emailed message.
Why It Matters
Trump’s approval rating has significant implications for how
Republicans
might take place during the off-year elections in 2025, like the governor races in New Jersey or Virginia, or possibly the midterm elections of 2026.
Traditionally, the political party of the sitting president experiences setbacks during midterm elections. A diminished approval rating for Trump would facilitate a more straightforward path to victory for his opponents.
Democrats
In 2018, during the president’s initial term, Democrats gained 41 seats in the House of Representatives. Should this trend repeat itself next year, Democrats would gain significant leverage as a counterbalance to the White House administration, which they presently do not possess.
What to Know
Trump’s approval in states he won remains high, and is lower in states he easily lost to former Vice President
Kamala Harris
However, in crucial swing states, he continues to be either neck-and-neck or slightly behind two months into his term.
Based on Civiqs’ online daily approval tracking polls, this map illustrates his approval ratings across various states as of March 27, 2025.
His backing from the conservative base remains robust, yet multiple recent surveys indicate that Americans are starting to become
growing worried over Trump’s economic policies
, a major factor that brought him back to the White House last year.
Grant Davis Reeher, a professor of political science at Syracuse University, told
he sees “consistency and flatness overall” in the polls, but that a slight downward trend makes “perfect sense” amid the firing of federal workers and tariff concerns.
Every time this occurs, fresh groups of citizens encounter aspects that could make them view the administration more critically, be it educators, veterans receiving assistance from the VA, retirees spending extended periods on calls with Social Security, individuals monitoring their 401(k)s as they watch the stock market fluctuate, among others,” he stated.
People’s opinions likely won’t shift significantly since both main political parties haven’t introduced anything substantially fresh in their messaging. He characterized the patterns seen in the Civiqs poll as quite typical.
This shows how his backing is faring across every state.
