the invalidation of Călin Georgescu’s bid
. The two politicians stated that only one of them would remain in the race after their candidacies are officially validated.
Simon, the head of the Alliance for the Unity of Romanians (AUR), called upon his followers on Facebook to rapidly gather the required signatures. He stressed that their nationalist campaign would persist with Georgescu’s backing.

Meanwhile, Gavrilă, the head of the nationalist Party of Young People (POT), echoed the same message, calling on supporters to rally behind their campaign.
Both candidates need at least 200,000 valid signatures to formally enter the race, with the submission deadline set for March 15.
Romania’s initial round of the presidential election is set for May 4, with a possible second round on May 18.
The far-right populist Călin Georgescu is ineligible to participate in Romania’s May presidential elections following the rejection of all appeals against the Central Electoral Bureau’s (BEC) choice to disqualify him as a candidate. This decision was made by the Constitutional Court (CCR) on Tuesday, March 11, and the verdict from the highest judicial body is conclusive and mandatory.
